Dr. Alberto Gonzalez is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, and as well, certified by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators as a diabetes educator. He received his Medical Doctorate Degree from the Instituto Technologico de Santo Domingo School of Medicine in the Dominican Republic. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey-affiliate, Mountainside Hospital in Montclair New Jersey, where he also served as Chief Medical Resident. He continued on to do his Fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the New York Medical College Saint Vincent Hospital and Medical Center of New York in 2000 with experience at The Mount Sinai Hospital of New York – Diabetes Center, The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary – Diabetes Clinic, and the Hospital for Special Surgery of New York – Bone Metabolic Clinic.
After completing his fellowship training, he became Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at New York Medical College and Clinical Director of the outpatient Diabetes Clinic at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, amongst numerous other appointments. After moving to Florida, he then became the founder and director of the Halifax Endocrinology Center at Daytona Beach. Prior to joining The Center for Diabetes & Endocrine Care in August 2014, he had been the director of Endocrinology Services , West Boca Medical Center and a member of Tenet Florida Physician Services, L.L.C.
Dr. Gonzalez-Alvarez has received recognition by numerous institutions and organizations. In 1997 he received the Squibb Humanitarian Award from the Department of Medicine, Mountainside Hospital, Montclair, NJ. Between 2009 and 2012 he was a nominee for the Physician Recognition Award at Boca West Medical Center. He is a recipient of America’s Top Physician Award, 2009-2015 and Heroes in Medicine Award (Palm Beach Medical Society) in 2012. In 2012 he was recognized by the Top Endocrinologist in Boca Raton Award.
He is a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, The Endocrine Society, The National Lipid Association and the American College of Physicians.
